Arts & Communications Pathway Information

Careers in Visual Arts and Communication challenge students' creative talents and emphasize verbal and visual communication of ideas. This pathway includes graphic design digital media, and motion graphics
. The creative aspects of this cluster are rapidly merging with new technologies to open exciting possibilities.

Courses in this pathway offer opportunities for certifications or college credit

Why Arts & Communication?

Effective communication is essential to success in any career. Writing, working with a team and communicating new ideas is a requirement of most jobs, and artistic vision is a desirable skill in just about every field. Businesses and corporations around the world recognize the valuable assets that artists and visionaries bring to the table.

The Arts & Communication Pathway not only teaches general skills that students can use throughout their lives, but it also teaches specialized skills in design software, editorial software and foreign languages. Students in this pathway are encouraged to go on to college, community college (like KCC in Oahu, HCC in Hilo) , or to an internship where they might major in English, Journalism, Communications, Graphic Design, Motion Graphics, Art, Drama, Music or a foreign language.

This is a career pathway for CREATORS -- people who prefer dealing with IDEAS and PEOPLE and enjoy EXPRESSING their own feelings and ideas in new and different ways through dance, music, art, design, language, literature, and other creative outlets.

How do you know if you fit this pathway? If you answer "yes" to most of these questions, you should consider the Arts & Communications pathway.

Are you creative, innovative, or imaginative?
Do you like to engage in creative, musical, artistic activities through dance, music, art, design, and other creative outlets?
Do you like to explore the use of languages?
Do you easily express ideas and feelings?
Do you demonstrate the flexibility in approaching and completing tasks?
Do you practice looking at a drawing and imagine it from other angles?
Do you enjoy speaking and/or performing in front of others?
Do you enjoy writing poetry or writing in your journal?
Do you enjoy being independent?
Do you seek opportunities for self expression?
